Greetings, and welcome to Aces High. I created this space for those who believe that therapy isn't for people like them. People who've never tried it, felt judged, discouraged, or unheard; because I was one of them.

 

I'm a first generation American with traditional Cuban roots that grew up in South Miami Dade, where mental health treatment was rich people nonsense. I became a part of the endless societal pipeline from untreated trauma and neurodiversity, to crime, addictions, homelessness, and suicide. I didn't find treatment that worked until I learned it from the inside out and earned an associate in Criminal Justice, a bachelors in Applied Psychology with a minor in Forensic Psychology and a master in Social Work. 

 

American psychology pathologizes adaptive thought and behavior patterns often only seeing them through negative lenses. I believe that you already possess skills, intuitions, and insights that can't be taught; they can only be earned. Treatment is not for making those aspects about you go away. It's for learning new ways to manage and put those things to work for you instead of against you. ​​​
