Trauma Specific

Core Idea: Trauma is stored in the body and nervous system; healing often requires experiential and somatic integration.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR):

    • Combines bilateral stimulation with cognitive processing to resolve traumatic memories.

    • Highly effective for PTSD, complex trauma, and dissociation.

  • Somatic Experiencing (SE):

    • Focuses on tracking physical sensations to release trauma from the nervous system.

    • Emphasizes "completing" threat responses.

  • Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT):

    • Combines cognitive restructuring, psychoeducation, and gradual exposure.

    • Widely used with children and adolescents.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS):

    • Views the psyche as made up of multiple "parts" (e.g., protectors, exiles, managers).

    • Healing involves helping the "Self" lead and integrate parts compassionately.

    • Strongly aligned with complex trauma and identity fragmentation.
